Laser SurgeryLaser surgery is used for most of our procedures. Laser offers a number of advantages over traditional scapel surgery. As an incision is made, lasers provide superior hemorrhage control by sealing capillaries This allows the procedure to be performed quickly (less anesthesia time) and with improved visualization of the surgical site. Lasers seal nerve endings which reduces postoperative pain and stress. Lasers provide a sterile field because the incision is made by vaporizing cells. This prevents bacteria or cancer cells from being dragged into the incision which can happen with a scalpel. Lasers can also be used to delay healing of wounds that tend to heal too fast such as abscesses or ear hematomas. Laser surgery allows small skin growths to be removed with local anesthesia which required general anesthesia in the past. Laser surgery is required for all feline declaw procedures because of the vastly superior pain and hemorrhage control. Laser is used to remove or vaporize growths in hard to reach locations such as the ear canal, throat and nose. If you have any questions, please ask us about this important surgical tool. |
